Goals from this past week 

• I will do something creative every day to post to IG and also to my FB creative happenings workshop group.✅
• Finish fabric collage on book page hand stitching✅
• Work on a sewing project✅
• List on my blog the you Tube channels subscriptions since the last time I gave a list✅

I have posted every day following the challenge by Joanne Sharpe online class to make some kind of creative play artwork every day.  I am posting to my carylquilts IG with  #mojowithjojo.  

I am only showing 2 of the projects in this blog post that I posted on IG and in my FB group.  I could post to my FB cinnamon holiday workshop blog group also (in addition to the FB creative happenings workshop group) if anyone is interested.

I made a Halloween mug rug/placemat measuring 14½ x 9"  It was a very quick project to make.  My favorite.....making small improv quilt projects.  Here are photos front and back

I finished the fabric collage from last week....hand stitching and then glued it to a 4x6 index card with FabriTac and then trimmed.  Here is the finish

There are a lot of quilting channels that I have followed for years and I have not listed any of them on my blog in a list.  Most everyone has already heard of them.  I do refer to them at times and try to remember to add the label on my blog.

AND here are some goals for next week:

• make a fall mini quilt to hang on my vintage wall shelf

Cool Cats finish in November

 I finished this before Thanksgiving and posted on Instagram.....but just now getting it on this blog!
This photo was taken on the patio just as it was starting to sprinkle...and I took some more photos inside and the one on IG is taken inside on the floor.  Also....on IG a photo machine quilting.

For the backing I used Moda purple marble swirls.

AND a scrappy binding....I had the binding positioned on the floor around the quilt to be sure there were no seams in the corners..........

I moved the starting position when I went to the machine and I did what I DID NOT want to do is have a seam at a corner...................

and not just one corner.....but two corners.   These photos are mostly for my reference and tips for later to remind myself how easy it is to miscalculate position of binding!!!

I quilted it with the serpentine stitch between the cats and then straight 1/4" around the cats.  It was a lot of turning....................so this prompted me to purchase a ruler foot and ruler so machine quilting will be much easier when I don't have to keep turning the quilt! 

It certainly was a fun quilt to make and I will probably be making another one!

Happy Halloween and some projects

This time of year I enjoy pumpkin spice coffee and creamer and anything pumpkin spice!  So when we were in Julian last month and I spotted this cup...it had to come home with me.  The selfie photos were at Lake Cuyamaca and in Julian on the bench on main street.  It was our 58th anniversary and we had a lovely day in the country.

This was a Halloween finish I made last month and gifted to a friend.

The photo shows a page from my creative journal.  Documenting the day in a creative way is so awesome......and I always enjoy it!  It is a great way to remember the day!

This last photo is a page from one of my practice notebooks of drawing abstract flowers in an online class with Joanne Sharpe. 

Not many finishes but I am working on the binding on two quilts and I will blog about them when finished!

Halloween mug rug

 Jenny at Missouri Star Quilt Company has a tutorial called periwinkle mug rug.
I used the Wacky Web template to cut out the shapes following her tutorial.
It is so much fun to make and I will be making more of these I am sure!

 Here is a photo before I quilted it.  I actually had the layout different but I didn't follow my rule of taking a photo of the way I wanted it before sewing!  SO....when I picked up the pieces in order I actually sewed them different than my plan!!

 Here is the fabric I ordered for a Halloween quilt....but the quilt won't be done before this Halloween!

The following are from eating out over the past month.
Denny's tilapia dinner..............very delicious!

 Denny's select a burger...chicken...........very delicious!  Roast potatoes are a lot less points than fries.

 Lake Wohlford  breakfast.  Smokey's scramble and home fries with sourdough toast.  I have had this so many times and really love it!  I don't eat all of the potatoes and the scramble is two eggs instead of three.  No butter on the toast and I put a tiny amount of jam on the pieces.

 Lake Cuyamaca rheuben and the best fries that are coated to be so delicious!
I could only eat one of the sandwiches and took the rest home for later.

There are so many delicious things to order when we eat out....AND I do NOT have to feel deprived!  Checking the points ahead of time and sticking with my plan is the best way to enjoy eating out!!

October Full Moon and Log Cabin Loonies

Because it is full moon again...........
it is time to share more about log cabin blocks........
This month I am sharing what I made last year at different times during the year..

 Foundation quilting is sooooo fun and easy and quick....

I am still working on the blocks I have shared in earlier posts....but not close to done yet...

Calico Days topper

 I used calico days fabric in this topper for my cube organizer with wicker baskets....
the same fabric I used for my charm box mini wallhanging....
I also added to the space a metal box that I painted in a class 10 years ago........

 I have been wanting to do straight line quilting again because it is so fun......
It finishes at 10 x 11½............

 I needed to do some more straight line quilting so I decided to do a quilt as you go placemat...
it is in progress I am not sure what I will do to finish........

Halloween D4P mini quilt

Simple disappearing 4 patch from Pumpkin Party charm squares.

I am using it as a tabletopper. 

It finished at 12" x 12".

Machine quilted in a spiderweb pattern.

Halloween? In March?

Instagram is a fun place to check out,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
there was a tutorial by studiojujuquilts and I had to try it.,,,
It is foundation piecing with muslin and a fun method.

At first I wanted to do a spring project but the Halloween theme is what I used and I love it!

I will use this as a wall hanging or mug rug.  There are a few photos on my instagram from start to end.

Now I need to get back to my string bean challenge (Pat Sloan's pattern).

more decorations

 I decided to add some more photos I have taken of quilty decorations...
the quilt on the wall is from Pat Sloan's book Crooked Cabins and I made it in 2008.

 Pumpkin Party tablerunner I made last year.

 Some of my placemats and tablerunner on the dining room table.

What fun my GGD has painting at our house.....(she is 2½)

and she likes the decorations and is checking them out.  We like seeing her every week.
In this photo I also like the reflections of the lights on the table and the window!

Fall and Halloween decorating

 Here are some of my decorations....the first one is in my kitchen...I love lights!

 In the living room.........the tablerunner is from a blog hop in 2010.
I take photos every year to document how I decorated.  I thought I would do a blog post of just some of my photos and decorations

Halloween Night wallhanging finished - UFO started in 2007

 I first blogged about this in 2010 when it was a UFO I was going to finish that year...
the blog post explains it and it is here if you want to check out more about it....

 Here are some closeups......I really like this little wallhanging....
The kit was purchased at Deer Country Quilts in Seeley Lake, MT....a great shop...

 I decided to leave the pumpkins plain without faces...

The quilt guild I belong to is having a UFO Challenge this year....
We select 3 or 4 quilt projects that we want to complete and list them on the entry form...
The first one is due for the November meeting and this witch wallhanging is the one I chose to finish...
The last photo shows the rules and the Challenge Hexagon Pin they give us when we signed up.  We get a button when each project is completed to add to our pin.  AND we get a ticket to put in a drawing for prizes.  Just a fun way to get a push to finish some projects.  I am so glad I listed this one first...now it is done!

Pumpkin Party Runner

 Finished Halloween runner...this photo without flash..
For the squares I used a charm pack by Deb Strain called Pumpkin Party.

 I used the 4-patch tutorial here     ....the tutorial I did was for a square table topper....
After sewing them into 4-patches I squared them to 4 1/2" each....

 For this project I wanted a rectangle runner so I used 18 charm squares...9 light and 9 dark...
I figured out a desirable placement....taking a photo and checking it before sewing helps to decide...

 For the back I used an old Debbie Mumm fabric....

This is a reversible runner for fall..... and Halloween.
It is very easy and very fun to make!
