This little quilt makes me happy.........and it was sooooo fun to make!
I did English paper piecing using a fabric glue pen and paper pieces.......
The hexies fabric is RJR Painting Watercolor and
the background is Essentials Dots white with baby pink......
I appliqued the hexies group to the background fabric.....
then I did a blanket stitch with purple Aurifil wt 12....
I marked about 1/4" away with a Frixion pen...(the marks iron out easily)...
layered with batting and backing.....and then quilted two rows with white perle 8....
For the borders I cut 1½" strips and starting at the bottom I did "quilt as you" go stitching
through all the layers with wrong side up and then press open before going to the next one...
then I did the one to the left and did the same for all borders and on around...
This has such fun stages to make this little quilt and I enjoyed ALL of them!
It could be a tabletopper or mugrug............or wallhanging...
I push pinned this one in my bathroom above another little mini I did several years ago!

placemats to go with five layer salad tablerunner
Here are the 2 placemats I made to go with the tablerunner in the last post...
I love these colorful fabrics....
AND these are so easy to make...no binding...just sew 3 layers, turn and topstitch around edge.
I will be making some more....maybe with hexies!
Here is another hexie project I started....
I like to sew each hexie separately....not sure what this will be....just playing!
I make little hexies at my Tuesday bee group when I don't have another project to sew....
I use plastic templates (photo of plastics on instagram of the plastics beside the project).

Hexie tree mug rug
This might be larger than the usual mug rug...
It is 9½ x 13...
It started with some hexies I had been making with scraps of Kate Spain 12 days of Christmas...snowflakes as the top fabric and presents and trees at the bottom....
I sewed the hexies onto the fabric with batting behind.....
I used some squares for the side from the Kate Spain fabric....
And this photo is before I quilted the layers together....
I decided to not use a binding and just sew right sides together and turn and..
then topstitch around the edge...
Here is the back from the Ho Ho Ho fabric....
Another fun project to do.

Hexagons with mylar templates
I have been searching for some hand work to do at my little quilt group that meets every Tuesday evening.......
Several weeks ago I ran across a blog post that made me want to try hexagons.....
Lots of people are doing them and I had not had an interest until I read a blog post at
where she did a tutorial using mylar templates...
and John'aLee sells them so I ordered some and the photo above shows some I did with
scraps of fabric by Kate Spain.......
they aren't sewn together yet....just basted on the back.....
I tried using paper templates first but I prefer using the mylar.....
I was thinking tonight I haven't finished anything in January....
BUT I have started some new things....
and I wanted to share these hexagons.....
I have also started following a quilt along at the same website...
Rancher's Daughter Quilt Along.....
come join us....it will be fun!!
Smiles and hugs....Caryl
