To-Do Tuesday #42

Another To-Do Tuesday and linking with Roseanne at Home Sewn By Us

Here is last week's list and progress:

To-Do Tuesday week of November 24 through November 30:

  1. FMQ Christmas panel by Susan Winget ✅
  2. paint and stitch project
  3. Bonnie Hunter mystery starts Friday
  4. start a manx block
I ran into a problem with the Christmas panel....I discovered I didn't completely cover all 4 of the panels with the backing when I started this years ago!!  I had started hand quilting the top left panel and my thought probably was to cut it up into separate panels.  Now I have FMQ on it and will just have to piece some backing before I finish the quilting....

Here is the stitch and paint project I am doing.  The You Tube video is Textile Card, Free Printable by stitchesbyjulia    My method of transfer is with a Frixion pen that erases with heat.

I did start the mystery last Friday.  I did some practice pieces using the essential ruler and have some grays and golds ready to sew.

The manx block did not get started.....maybe next year.

My sister and her husband had their 50th anniversary and here is the card I made for them.  I used sparkle embossing powder on the flower design and watercolors with dry brush distress ink on the outer parts.

I worked on some painted papers made into little books from Joanne Sharpe Art Sparks 1 class

The trees are starting to turn....this is a closeup of a tree I see across the street from our kitchen window.

And the next photo is the moon coming up....view from our front door across the street.

To-Do Tuesday week of December 1 through December 7:
  1. stitch and paint project
  2. Bonnie Hunter mystery
  3. Christmas projects
I am linking to Roseanne's

Be sure to check it out.

Log cabin mug rugs and a quilt card

Here is what I did with some leftover fabric from Eat Your Fruits n' Veggies by Pat Sloan.......
I wanted to continue making log cabin blocks....
I decided to carry the fabric around the corner on part of it...
This is what I did....
just sew the ends together and then hold it in place and see where the seam looks best...
Stitch and then trim....I decided to stop and not go any further...
So these became mug rugs/potholders/table mats.........
Here is a photo before I quilted them.

I also made a quilt card at Stamp Delights....thanks Debbie for the instruction......
That photo is in my IG photostream on the sidebar....

Check IG carylquilts for other photos of what I have been working on this week.

tutorial for cardmaking with stitching

Here is a card I made several days ago and I learned a lot in the process...
I haven't made any cards for awhile and had no idea what I was going to make...
I have a hard time coming up with my own design and need to get ideas from other people ...
To start I decided to pick a flower stamp and stamp on fabric and stitch the lines...
(I had done this with another flower stamp on fabric in Dec 2010.)
For the top and back I used antique dots fabric and batting between the layers...
I stamped with Fabrico sky mist fabric ink on both of the fabrics stamped on this card...
the thread on the flower is Rainbow #838 varigated...

Stamps I used for this card:
Hero Arts CG134
Hero Arts CG119
Memory Box B1354
Verses MC0330-D

After stitching I applied Smooch grape soda accent pearlized ink (has an applicator)...
I like the way it shows the dots in the fabric....the photo shows it applied on one petal...
I used Smooch gold lame for the center....
Distress Ink dusty concord for the saying and butterfly....
I looked on flickr for inspiration and got an idea from jillianavery8222
here
I stitched the fabrics by folding it over a piece of cardstock...
then I used a paper strip of Memory Box enchanted in the center to cover the fabric ends...

Things I need to do better next time:
  • figure out a way to keep the fabric tight to the back of the cardstock before stitching
  • trim off the corners of the fabric to take away the bulk
  • check my thread so I don't run out at a spot that shows on the card
  • use a different stitch to put on the center paper that isn't so close together
  • be sure to check if all of the center is stitched before stopping
  • find a button for the center of the flower
  • add some glitter or sparkle
  • lightly smear some ink around the edges of the small paper with the words

a week later

I took these two photos on Feb 15 with the plan to do a blog post that day.... my husband postop from gallbladder surgery developed problems... more about that below... this is one of the blocks for a santa swap at Pat Sloan's quiltmashup forum... most everyone else is done with their blocks and I am now far behind....
here is the photo of a simple Valentine card to my sweetie... I used the stars and swirls embossing folder.... I cut out the hearts with my AccuQuilt GO!.... then stitched them with zigzag stitch... added some worn lipstick distress ink in spots... Smiles and hugs....Caryl ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~husband medical update....~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Dave had the gallbladder surgery on Feb 9 and this was due to stones they discovered last Sept when he had severe pancreatitis. The surgeon was waiting for some pseudocysts to decrease in size before doing the gallbladder surgery and they did decrease. THEN on the am of Feb 15 he had sudden severe abdominal pain and we went to ER and he was admitted to the hospital and he was there for a week. He had an abdominal (hospital) infection and bile leaking from somewhere in the abdomen. So he was on IV antibiotics and they inserted a drain in his abdomen to drain the bile. He is home now with the drain and oral antibiotics....hopefully the bile leak will stop on its own! Still on a wait and see basis.....

butterfly compare

Last week Outside the Box blog had a blog hop....
They featured twinkling H2Os....
the above photo shows what I did with my twinks....
I now keep the lids off in the container...
and spritz with water when ready to paint...
I have had these many years and always put the lids back on...
I like the change...easier to see the colors and..
quicker to get to the fun!!

the top of the photo is with Smooch....
and the bottom is with twinkling H2Os...
there is such a difference between white and black cardstock...
the colors turn out looking totally different...
but all four have lots of sparkle...

here is what I used:
Hero Arts artists butterfly stamp
Versamark Dazzle champagne
gold embossing powder
Smooch pearlized accent ink sassy pink and ocean soul
Twinkling H2Os fuzzy pink and Carribean mist
waterbrush
flat brush

for lots of tips and inspiration...
video tutorials...
check Outside the Box blog...
to see what the Memory Box team did last week...
and what they are still doing!!!!
