Pumpkin Harvest placemats and potholders

I finished four small projects this week. Two placemats with Awesome fabric on the sides and top and Harvest fabric in the center to match the border fabric of the tablerunner from last post. I did x hand quilting on one of them. Two pot holders I  used same fabrics and one I stitched in the ditch around the center. The other one I machine stitched along the seams before I turned it.
I am linking with crazymomquilts.

The last photo shows the foreground placemats from 2012 and the new things I have finished this week and last week.

Harvest Joy Pumpkin Patch tablerunner

I am so happy with this tablerunner.  It is 42x15 1/2 and I got the free pattern for the block from Sarah at sewjoycreations.com. The first block of her pattern is what I used and the blog post was August 26, 2015.   I used fabric from a kit for the blocks.  For the outer border I used fabric I purchased last fall in Oak Glen.  Photos taken outside yesterday and I included closeups of each block.  I quilted with black thread on the green squares with x pattern and in the ditch around the pumpkins.  I am using the border fabric for placemats and the sides and top are Awesome fabric to match up with placemats I made in 2012.

Sunset color filled the sky

These photos are from yesterday on our cycle ride to the mountains...

Here is a photo of the sky about two hours before sunset...
 Cuyamaca Park

Meatloaf dinner was highly recommended by our waitress and it was delicious!
In Julian at the corner of the town hall looking west.....
At scenic overlook area above Santa Ysabel waiting for the sunset....

These photos do not begin to capture the beauty we saw.....
The whole sky was so beautiful and it stayed gorgeous long after sunset....
We still love riding as much as ever and have no plans for this to be the last ride into the sunset.

Pumpkin Party Runner

Finished Halloween runner...this photo without flash..
For the squares I used a charm pack by Deb Strain called Pumpkin Party.
I used the 4-patch tutorial here     ....the tutorial I did was for a square table topper....
After sewing them into 4-patches I squared them to 4 1/2" each....
For this project I wanted a rectangle runner so I used 18 charm squares...9 light and 9 dark...
I figured out a desirable placement....taking a photo and checking it before sewing helps to decide...
Here is a photo with flash....
 Closeup of the bottom area...
For the back I used an old Debbie Mumm fabric....
Closeup of the bottom....
This is a reversible runner for fall..... and Halloween.
It is very easy and very fun to make!

Awesome fun placemats

I finished the two placemats I started last week...
I decided they needed more than just the buttonhole stitch around the pumpkins...
So I added some Xs on the sides and in the ditch quilting along borders
and then I did some free motion  heart leaves and loops around the pumpkin...
The fabrics I used were:
Awesome by Sandy Gervais
the black is Holly Holderman antique dots by Lakehouse
the orange for the pumpkin was in my stash and the selvage said The Cat's Meow...
I went online to research it and the ad is described below...
The Cat's Meow - Tonal Curls & Swirls - Flame Red
Butter, Orange, Flame RedLooking for a whimsical border, backing, background or quilt block application that is full of movement and joy? This little print is just the ticket! Done with a limited palette and on a small scale, you'll want to include this in your stash of fabrics to have on hand. Larger curls are about 3/4", from 'The Cat's Meow' collection by Bella Lu Studio for South Seas

SO.....I actually finished something.....will add it to my finished project list...
The last finish I did was in May!!

Placemats with pumpkins

This is a continuation of the previous posts.  I am using the jelly roll Awesome...
I put a backing piece and front piece with right sides together with batting and sewed around the edge...
I left about a 6" space open to turn inside out and then stitched along the top edge...
I just quilted the pumpkin....not sure what else to quilt on the placemat...
I see the top left line in the pumpkin needs more of a curve in it....yikes...
I used a swirly orange fabric for the pumpkin which isn't part of the Awesome...
but the stem is part of the Awesome fabric line...
Here is the placemat before I put on the pumpkin...
This is another placemat I made...
I have tons of pairs of squares sewn together to make more projects...
These are a lot of fun and quick and very easy!

Halloween inspiration

This is the quilt I mentioned in my last post and the one that gave me inspiration to start a new project.  It is a quilt that is on a resident's bed where I work.
I started sewing strips and then cut them into pieces.  Today I sewed some light strips from the jelly roll for the center background and might make some placemats instead of a quilt.
Here is another quilt that is hanging on the wall behind her bed.  She has such a cozy room and changes quilts with the seasons.
